Total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027: watch it from Villa La Barrosa
On Monday 2 August 2027 something happens that comes around once in a lifetime: a total solar eclipse will sweep across southern Spain from west to east, and almost the whole province of Cádiz will lie inside the path of totality. In the middle of summer, mid-morning, with the sun high in the sky, day will turn into night for a few minutes.
Villa La Barrosa is in Sancti Petri (Chiclana de la Frontera), inside the path of totality. No need to travel anywhere: you watch the eclipse from the garden.
What you will see from the villa (official times for Chiclana)
- 09:40 — the partial eclipse begins. The Moon starts to "bite" into the Sun.
- 10:45:06 — totality begins. Night falls, the brightest stars appear and the solar corona is visible to the naked eye.
- 10:46:50 — maximum eclipse.
- 10:48:34 — totality ends. 3 minutes and 28 seconds of total darkness.
Data from Spain's National Geographic Institute for the municipality of Chiclana de la Frontera. Twenty minutes away by car, Conil de la Frontera gets almost 4 minutes of totality, among the longest anywhere in Spain.
Why watch it from a private villa
Hotels and apartments along the Cádiz coast have been selling out for those dates for months, and whoever finds a room will most likely watch it from a crowded beach or rooftop. At Villa La Barrosa it is a different experience:
- A private 2,500 m² garden under open sky: your own observatory, with no crowds and no traffic.
- A fenced private pool to spend eclipse morning (and the whole week) at your own pace.
- Up to 6 guests, two bedrooms, air conditioning throughout the house.
- Minutes from La Barrosa beach and the Calas de Roche, 100 metres from La Estancia golf course.
- A full Saturday-to-Saturday week: the eclipse is on Monday, so you have the weekend before to settle in and the rest of the week to enjoy the Costa de la Luz.

Tips for enjoying the eclipse safely
- Wear certified eclipse glasses (ISO 12312-2) during the partial phases. Only during the three and a half minutes of totality can you look with the naked eye.
- Keep a camera or phone handy, but don't miss the moment by staring at a screen: the corona looks best with your own eyes.
- Notice the drop in temperature, the strange light in the minutes before and the silence of the birds: it is all part of the experience.
The next total solar eclipse visible from the Cádiz coast is decades away. If you want to experience this one from your own house with a pool, this is the week.
